Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) purchases utility bad debt residential and commercial accounts, a practice that has been proven to help utilities improve their liquidity positions and attain their credit and collection departmental recovery goals as well as reduce administrative expenses.

Many utility companies now regularly sell bad debt accounts to improve their returns and reduce the uncertainty associated with such accounts.  When we purchase a bad debt portfolio, we assume ownership of the accounts and provide utilities with our purchase price upon deal closing.  By selling bad debt, utilities also free themselves from the support costs normally dedicated to managing these accounts, enabling them to use their resources for purposes that are more productive.
