This is a communication from a debt collector. Assisting Local/Municipal GovernmentsOne of the important but little-known services provided by leading debt collection companies like Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) is the work we do with municipal governments to identify and collect unpaid tax debt. PRA government services subsidiaries have specialists who use dedicated technology to review tax-related data on money that both corporations and individuals owe their local governments. On Jan. 3, 2011, PRA’s existing government subsidiaries, which transacts business as Revenue Discovery Systems (RDS), Broussard Partners Associates (BPA) and MuniServices, LLC, consolidated operations and will formally merge and operate under the name PRA Government Services, LLC later this year. Under this initiative, PRA government sector operations will more fully integrate as an operating and reporting unit to further streamline management of sales growth and product development for its markets. The work PRA does with municipal governments is a particularly important service that debt recovery companies provide during times of economic trouble for businesses for a number of reasons. Actually, it is oftentimes less expensive for governments to “outsource” debt collection than to spend the time and resources doing it themselves. In turn, money is saved for taxpayers just like you. By collecting unpaid tax debt, local governments are able to provide public services without having to raise taxes even higher. The more tax revenue that is collected from those who owe tax debt, the more that is saved in new taxes for businesses and individuals who have conscientiously paid their taxes over the years. Communities with lower taxes can better attract new businesses to locate in their areas – which, in turn, means more jobs for area residents. As with all the work done by legitimate debt collection companies, our government services affiliates comply with the strictest confidentiality standards when dealing with taxpayer debt, for business and individual consumers.
